As a process professional, this is a great book to learn bpmn and the correct rules to follow in order to adopt a standard for modelling. I often re-read segments i highlighted to better model business processes. Recommended read.
I learned a great deal from this book; it helped me professionally. The only flaw in the book is that it implies that the XML serialization is actually useful; in fact, the various tools do not produce standard XML serialization, so the various pieces of middleware cannot assume that the XML is a valid and adequate representation of the process flow. More to the point, BPMN is about process flow, while tools like JBPM are focused on workflow. In the real world, developers and BAs have to spend time converting BPMN diagrams into the workflow diagrams necessary. But since the description of XML serialization is a relatively small part of the book, one may safely pass over this portion and spend more time on the details of producing high quality process flows.
The author's content does a great job of laying out BPMN for the reader. However, the images in the Kindle version are very grainy and of poor quality. They are readable, but could be so much cleaner. However, thenKindle price is significantly lower making this a fantastic bargain.
Really great book for BPMN beginners, but I recommend you have the right BPMN tools before you start with this. It's also not available on my Kindle reader which is unfortunate.
Had to learn BPMN for a new job and this guide was very easy to jump into. Immediately useful with good examples. Using kindle desktop edition and everything is easy to read and see.
Okay book for what information it has, but beware, there are some mistakes or conflicts in what Silver wrote versus what is in the current BPMN 2.0 spec from OMG.
